  • So what's it like?

    Superb skiing, beautiful scenery and an exceptional snow park

    Set in the beautiful Ziller valley, Mayrhofen proudly offers something for everyone: fantastic skiing and excellent après ski. As one of the first resorts in Europe to combine teaching with childcare it has developed as a huge favourite with families. The wonderful skiing in Mayrhofen takes place on two separate, sunny plateaux - the Penken and the Ahorn. The Ahorn cable car is located just 200m from the Penken gondola in the village centre. Connected by a free bus service to the huge Zillertal ski area including Hintertux Glacier, Mayrhofen is a great holiday base for all levels of skier. The Mayrhofen Area lift pass which covers all the ski areas in the Ziller Valley can be pre-booked and equipment hire and tuition should be booked on arrival. Look out for special offers as well - we regularly offer "allocation on arrival" Mayrhofen Ski Area special offers, with which you will be guaranteed accommodation in one of the villages on the Mayrhofen lift pass within the Ziller Valley such as Ramsau, Hippach or Schwendau.

    Ski information

    Beginners

    Mayrhofen and Finkenberg are particularly good choices if this is your first time on skis. Patient instructors and gentle nursery slopes will ensure you get the most out of your first ski trip.

    Intermediates

    The Ziller Valley is an intermediate's paradise with over 625km of piste stretching from the high altitude of the Hintertux Glacier to the large network of pistes at Hochzillertal/Hochfügen. All areas are linked by public transport - either ski buses or the valley's train line. Mayrhofen, Finkenberg and Zell am Zeller are all good choices for intermediate skiers. In Mayrhofen you also have the added bonus of a Crystal Ski Escort to help you make the most of the is fantasic valley!

    Advanced

    There are tricky routes down the Penken Mountains to Schwendau and through the trees from the Ahorn (now served by the vast new Ahorn cable car. The Horberg ski area also offers a number of exciting long runs like the challenging Schafskopf mogul run. Don't miss a run down "Harakiri" - the steepest pisted black in Austria.

    Nightlife

    White Lounge: The official chill out area in Mayrhofen
    The White Lounge is a new addition to Mayrhofen's après ski, a 6 metre high iglu set up at 2000m at the top of the Ahorn gondola. Outside the lively bar you can enjoy superb views of the valley whilst the music provides the perfect chill-out atmosphere. Take your drinks inside for a welcome seat in one of the cosy, candlelit lounges with fur covered seats and snow carvings adorning the walls. Regular party nights include a torchlit walk, welcome drink and a return gondola trip for approx. €20 - last gondola down at 11.00pm!
