Kaprun is situated in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park, directly beneath the breathtaking Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. It is one of Austria's most popular winter and summer ski resorts due to its excellent skiing and bustling après ski with a great choice of bars, the fantastic 'Optimum' sports centre and 'Tauern Spa' complex. Together with its neighbouring resort, Zell am See, the area offers skiing and boarding for all levels and abilities, all on one lift pass.

    Ski information

    Beginners

If you’ve never skied before then Kaprun has a mountain just for you – a dedicated beginner ski area, where you’ll have superb instructors teaching you without having to worry about other skiers flying past. This is a great way to start skiing and customers often find they progress quickly because of this, venturing on to the other areas covered on the lift pass. There are plenty of gentle runs to keep you learning, even from the very top of the mountains.

    Intermediates

The range of skiing in and around Kaprun is truly incredible. Over 130kms of pistes and 58 lifts are available in the fantastic Kaprun/Zell am See Europa Sportregion (free ski bus).

    Advanced

Accomplished skiers will relish the contrast of wide-open pistes and superb powder of the glacier bowl. There are seven exciting black runs throughout the region, some with vicious moguls. There are especially challenging and exhilarating pistes on Zell am See's Schmittenhöhe Mountain and the Maiskogel has some great off piste on powder days.
