So what's it like?
Recently voted the most snow-sure resort in Europe, a fantastic area
Situated high up in the stunning Ötz Valley, the superb Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area offers a good variety of runs, great for groups of mixed ability skiers. At 2163m, the ski-in/ski-out 'hamlet' of Hochgurgl is the highest ski resort in Austria and is linked to Obergurgl by the Top Express gondola. From Hochgurgl, the Wurmkogel chairlift takes you to the highest point, at 3100m, where there are breathtaking views of the Italian Dolomites to enjoy before skiing the exhilarating runs down into the valley.
Ski information
Beginners
Beginners are well catered for with the Mahdstuhl nursery slopes just below Obergurgl village. Sixteen beginners' slopes are covered on the lift pass, some rising to almost 3,000m with spectacular views.
Intermediates
Pistes on the Festkogel and Gaisberg in Obergurgl are mainly above the tree line and lead right down to the village. Experience some exciting tree skiing around Steinmann lift, while Hochgurgl offers a variety of long challenging runs.
Advanced
The area has some surprisingly good advanced skiing. The Hohe Mut is one of the Tirol's biggest bump runs. Sattel has some great off-piste and the exhilarating Festkogl ski route is steep and unforgettable in fresh powder. On the Hochgurgl side you can head for the Konigstal for excellent off-piste or try the black runs from the top of the Wurmkogl at 3082m.
